Just two blocks south from the steps of Am Gestade is the quiet square of Judenplatz. Judenplatz is a significant site in Jewish heritage as there are significant memorials located on this square. The square itself is the center of the Jewish community in the Inner Stadt during the Middle Ages.
Judenplatz means Jewish Square and a memorial was built on this square to honour Austrian Jews who were killed during the Holocaust. The memorial, known as the Nameless Library as the memorial is designed to depict library shelfs with books facing the outside as not to be able to read the spine nor its content.
