"New Old Man"
There's an old man who has the strongest of backs,
Who does not know how much longer he'll last
He carries a world of weight, since he feels it's his fate,
To see when he'd break before he bent and relaxed. -
Walking the same dusty road that must be his home,
A boy asked why he bears this pain.
With the fussiest tone he said he must be alone,
To deal with the weight brought by the change. -
He reached the end of the path with no looking back,
The boy saw passion deep in his eyes.
Without a care the child leaped atop the pile,
The man turned around, just to give him a ride.
There was an old man who had the strongest of backs,
Who did not know how much longer he'd last
With new purpose gained, he lifted the weight,
And carried the planet till the day he collapsed.
